kānuka Cleans

One of my favourite ways to cleanse, morning and night is with this delicious smelling balm. I dig it out and massage it all over my face, neck and décolletage.

It’s a great way to wake up!

The benefits are:

- Coconut oil melts makeup, excess oil and pore clogging impurities without stripping the skin. It’s intensely hydrating, high in antioxidants and Vitamins A, B, C, and E. It’s a natural decongestant which cleanses and purifies skin.

- Apricot kernel oil is lightweight and high in vitamin A and E, which nourish and protect the skin from free radicals. It also absorbs makeup, is moisturising and soothes sensitive or inflamed skin.

- kānuka as we know it….anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-septic….say no more.

- Hemp seed oil is packed full of omega fatty acids and can be applied to the skin and hair to improve the skin barrier.

This cleansing balm is solid at room temperature which gives it the added bonus of being great for travelling, though I travel with it in a secure bag to ensure it doesn’t liquify and leak, just in case.

THE COMEDOGENIC SCALE

Another important thing to know when choosing the best cleansing oil/balm for you is the comedogenic ratings. Every oil is given a number from 0 to 5 based on whether or not it clogs pores:

0 means it will definitely not clog your pores
1 means there is a low chance
2 means there is a fairly low chance
3 means there is an moderate chance
4 means there is a fairly high chance
5 means there is a high chance
If you are acne-prone, your best natural face wash must be at a 2 or under.

So although hemp has a comedogenic rating of 0, and apricot is a 2, coconut has a rating of 4. So this balm is not recommended for acne prone skin.

Because there are so many other fabulous, nourishing, acne-fighting oils, leave coconut based cleansers for those with acne-free skin types. But if you have very dry skin, it is a good choice for you.
